Outer Rim Conference Determines Superclash Participant.
Posted by: Troon Kebris - Faction: Ailon Nova Guard

Throughout the past week, the top two teams from the Cybot Galactica Outer Rim conference have met in couragous battle to determine which team would go on to the The TGM Super Shockball Clash. Kabal Onslaught were favourite to take out the series against season surprise packets Kal`Shebbol Echelon. Odds were definitely in the favour of the Onslaught who had cruised through to take out the Outer Rim Champions title for the season.

Onslaught would host the first of the 3 match finals series, only to see Echelon go on to surprise everyone taking the match in a very tight 36-34 affair. Having been shocked at home, Onslaught went to Kal`Shebbol very much on the edge of their seats. A loss would signal the end of their promising season. To make matters worse, Echelon now had the backing of a large and very vocal home crowd. However it was now the Onslaught to take an away victory 33-31, their season hopes still alive.

Thus the 3rd and final game was to be played. Onslaught would have the home field advantage although not that it appeared to matter much given the past two results. Both teams looked extremely fired up for the game, realising that what lay ahead was Shockball immortality. Leading up to the match, Ellias Aubec, owner of the Echelon was feeling a little nervous.
“Was feeling a bit apprehensive.” He said. “One game each, and Kabal seemingly the stronger over the last half of the season. However, it seemed that both sides were able to put the hostiles crowds out of their minds for the first two matches, so I had some small hope that it would carry on through this game.”

The Echelon certainly got off to the better start, jumping out to a tight 5-3 lead. Unfortunately, the Echelon players appeared to be tiring early with Drones taking the field midway through the 2nd period, allowing Kabal to push the advantage with some late goals to take a 9-6 lead to the 2nd break. The third period saw more of the same with the scores still swaying to the Onslaught tune, as they increased their lead by four: 14-10. With the half time break approaching fast, both teams realised that now was the time to act. Unfortunately for Echelon it appeared to only be the Onslaught that turned out for the period. The home fans were jubilant and in loud voice as the Onslaught pushed out to a commanding 22-12 lead at the major break. The Echelon playes were visibly dejected as they made their way off the field. A ten point margin was a massive hole from which they had to dig themselves out of. Yasira Shran, fanatical Onslaught supporter, was convinced her team was destiny bound for the Superclash.
“Gooooo Onslaught!!” she screamed as her heroes made their way to the locker rooms.

Whatever Ellias Aubec said to his team at half time had some great effect. The first period of the second half saw a rejuvenated Echelon whitle the huge defeceit down to just 4, keeping the Onslaught to only 1 point for the period. Perhaps Echelon fans should thank Sagoro Cloud, whose four point miracle goal cut the lead down considerably. What came next no one saw coming. For a while the entire stadium on Kabal was dead silent. Never before in the history of professional shockball had a period of such dominance be displayed. The Echelon, all over their opponents pulled out an 11 points to nil period, seeing them take the lead for the first time in the match 30-23. Spectators were shocked.
“Holy hobgoblins...” Was all Fred Berry could say and he was not alone in his reaction. Watching via holofeed, Troon Kebris could only look on in awe,
“Was that 11-0 in that period??? Feed me to a nerf!”Onslaught now had a massive task ahead. Not only did they have to drag themselves up off the canvas but now also had to replicate what the Echelon just showed was possible. The 7th period was not what the doctor ordered for Kabal, as the Echelon pressed home their advantage, taking a 36 to 25 lead into the last change.

The Onslaught left nothing on the field in the last period, trying everything they could to win the match. The crowd was on the edge of their seats, barely making a sound as their team slowly but surely wound down the Echelon. Unfortunately for the home fans it was a matter of too little too late, as while Echelon failed to score for the period, the 11 point margin was just too hard to over come, eventually going down 36 to 31.

Onslaught star, Lucian Fidelis, realises his season is over after the last siren. Onslaught fan, Yasira Shran was less then impressed with the result.
"In my opinion it wasn't the best team that won the Outer Rim Playoffs, it was just the luckiest!" She pouted as she raised the Onslaught pompoms for one final time.

Kabal Shryke lamented a season of lost opportunity.
“We need to shoot better...we averaged just over 24 misses per match. NOT blocks just pure misses. From a fans standpoint the games were all pretty awesome and closely contested...but from my eyes if our throwing was more accurate then we would have won all 3 games. Echelon played a great series and I hope they go on to win but it all still leaves a little bitter taste in my mouth.” When asked what changes he would bring in for next season, he offered
“We've had some upheaval this season with the roster and it is looking like this offseason may see some major roster changes. I have a good core of players but after this game I can think of three who might not be back.”

Ellias Aubec managed to make time for a quick message, stating:
“A very close game, and I'm not sure if we deserve it - some lucky 4 pointers put us into the lead. Close games between us and Kabal for all three games. With only a few points between us it shows how very close our two teams are to each other with regard to skill and tactics.” He then sent this message out to their opponents in the TGM Superclash.
“The Core had better watch out as the Outer Rim comes knocking."

The first season of the CSL reaches its conclusion on year 11 Day 48, when the Kal`Shebbol Echelon take on their Core Worlds counterparts at the colossul “Galactic Sports League Arena” space station in the Vendaxa system.
